Kanza Capital Partners The Ghost
Model-book note; educational only. The Ghost is a hypothetical model portfolio used to explain Tanzanian market structure, allocation reasoning and risk; not investment advice, a recommendation, or a live client portfolio. Holdings are illustrative; prices and liquidity may be stale or thin. Figures reconcile to their sources as at the date shown on each mark.
The journey

The Journey; the story so far.

Every chapter in The Ghost's public learning ledger, in order; start at the beginning, or pick up at the latest chapter.

The Journey is the Ghost's audit trail in story form. It shows how a hypothetical TZS 500m model book learns Tanzania's market one chapter at a time: when it waits, when it studies, when it moves, and when it chooses not to.

The chapters

A book written one move at a time

Each chapter explains a hypothetical model-book decision after the fact. It is a teaching note; not a signal, a recommendation, or an instruction to trade. "Moves" include research and deliberate non-decisions, not only trades.
Chapter 21 · this month Monthly capital allocated + rule published

October allocation: two rules, and both of them bind on the way in

Monthly allocationFixed incomeDurationConcentration ruleCashCommoditiesNew savings

TSh 7m of new savings sent 5m further out the government bond curve and nothing to the bill ladder, whose one-year rung has now fallen at five consecutive auctions, 1m gave the collective income fund a job because the ballast carried 86.9% one issuer, and 0.5m each went to cash and the gold hedge. Equities got nothing for a third month. The single-name cap dated here by three earlier chapters is published: 20% of the book, binding on new savings only, never forcing a sale. · 1 Oct · Wk 40

Lesson A rule that governs the way in constrains the prices that follow it. One that forces a sale turns someone else’s price move into your transaction.

Chapter 16 Monthly capital allocated

September allocation: the tenor was the problem, not the ladder

Monthly allocationFixed incomeCashCommoditiesNew savings

TSh 7m of new savings put 4m out the bond curve, 1.5m back into the bill ladder at the 364-day rung rather than the 91-day one that still lends below inflation, 1m into cash while the index series carries an unexplained 26 August discontinuity, and 0.5m into the gold hedge. Equities got nothing for a second month running. · 1 Sep · Wk 36

Lesson Reject the rung, not the instrument. A correction published out loud is the discipline.

Chapter 10 Monthly capital allocated

August allocation; where the month's 7m went

Monthly allocationFixed incomeCommoditiesCashNew savings

TSh 7m of new savings moved 4m out the bond curve, 1.5m into the gold hedge and 1.5m into dry powder; and gave equities nothing, the sleeve furthest above its band middle. · 1 Aug · Wk 31

Lesson A revised decision is not a failed one; and adding nothing is still a decision.

Chapter 09 No-move decision

A record with an asterisk, and the book holds

Weekly · holdEquitiesBreadthNon-decision

The All-Share set an all-time high; on negative breadth, carried by cross-listed counters marked up without volume. The Ghost held, a fourth week running. · 25 Jul · Wk 30

Lesson A record the board didn't confirm is a headline, not a thesis.

Chapter 08 No-move decision

A narrow recovery, and the book holds

Weekly · holdEquitiesBanksNon-decision

The index clawed back to within a whisker of its record; but the banks did the carrying while breadth stayed negative, and every sleeve sat mid-band. · 18 Jul · Wk 29

Lesson Being flattered by the tape is not a signal to press the bet.

Chapter 07 No-move decision

A record cools, and the book still holds

Weekly · holdEquitiesBanksNon-decision

The tape gave a little of the record run back; and the Ghost did nothing, on purpose. Every sleeve sat inside its mandate band, so there was no drift to correct. · 11 Jul · Wk 28

Lesson Not moving is still a decision.

Chapter 06 No-move decision

Holding into a record tape

Weekly · holdEquitiesNon-decision

Three record closes in a row, and the Ghost's answer was to do nothing; not because nothing happened, but because nothing changed the thesis. · 4 Jul · Wk 27

Lesson Holding through strength can be the active choice.

Chapter 05 Monthly capital allocated

July allocation; where the month's 7m went

Monthly allocationEquitiesFixed incomeNew savings

TSh 7m of new savings; 4m into the anchor equity, 3m into the fixed-income ladder; fed the under-weight sleeves that had room. · 1 Jul · Wk 27

Lesson Contributions are capital, not performance; allocation discipline matters.

Chapter 04 Commodity sleeve opened

Opening a gold sleeve on the reserve thesis

Weekly · openCommoditiesGoldHedge

Trimming cash to open the book's first commodity position; a small, notional gold sleeve, held for what it protects rather than what it might return. · 20 Jun · Wk 25

Lesson A hedge is sized for protection, not excitement.

Chapter 03 No-move decision

Letting the bank winners run

Hold · non-decisionEquitiesBanks

Why the Ghost held its DSE financials into strength rather than taking the easy profit. · Week 25

Chapter 02 Research completed

Reading the gold terrain

Research · rulesCommoditiesGold

The reserve-accumulation case for a little gold; the research that set the rules, before any position was opened. · Week 24

Lesson Research comes before exposure.

Lesson A model book needs rules before returns.

What the journey teaches
Rules before returnsThe mandate and the risk limits came before the first shilling was allocated.
Cash can be a decisionWaiting in T-bills is a position, not an absence of one.
Research before exposureThe gold rules were written before any gold was held.
Holding can be activeChoosing not to sell winners is itself a decision.
Hedges are sized for protectionThe gold sleeve is small; held for what it protects, not what it might return.
Contributions are not performanceNew savings add capital; only the market moves the return.
